About the Book

A wedding planner who believes in fairytale weddings, Mini yearns for romance in her own marriage. The magic of the initial years has vanished, leaving behind a hunger that she tries to assuage with chocolates. Mini would love to change her situation, but she is over the hill, overweight and under confident. The chances of having a hot affair with a happening man are dim, if not non-existent.

An erstwhile royal scion decides to wed a Bollywood starlet and Mini is sent to Mumbai to plan the celebrations. The manager of the Mumbai office is young Rustom, the answer to Mini’s secret dreams. Goaded by impending menopause, Mini decides it’s now or never. She simply has to take a second stab at romance.

Rustom is a ladies man. He is also married, and a skirt chaser. Mini decides to shape up and get into the kind of skirts Rustom would want to chase.

Working together closely, Rustom and Mini fall into each others’ arms. Meanwhile, her husband gets wind of the affair and tries to reclaim her. Now Mini must choose between heady romance and steady matrimony.

But soon, Mini discovers that her romantic idol has feet of clay. In a dramatic end, the trusty husband stages a timely rescue. And Mini learns that a rock solid husband is worth many a dream lover.

My views about the book:-

The story of a woman who wants to fulfil all her fantasies before she hits menopause. Mini, a woman who is successful in her career and also a dutiful wife. Mini wants a Mill’s and Boon kind of romance in her life, on the contrary, her marriage is going through mid-life crisis. The spark and romance in her married life are lost. She is waiting for her Dream Lover to come and sweep her off her feet with his romantic ways. Being so dependent on the husband, Shyam, for every small work, I really liked the way how Mini emerges as a confident woman at the end. I don’t know if it is correct to call it a happy ending. Since happy ending means that the lovebirds unite at the end, yet everything in the story falls into its right place.

It was enjoyable to read about how Mini always lands into some funny situation, especially the scene at the pub when she first arrives in Mumbai and accidentally meets Pritam Pal Singh, her neighbour from Delhi . There were many such funny incidents.

I have a big question. Is adultery justified in a marriage? I would say, a big NO. Still, while reading the book, I never found Mini’s dreams and fantasies to be wrong. After all, every woman needs love, care, attention and also the expression from her husband. At the end, the book answers the issue. I really liked the words of wisdom from the elderly lady who met Mini at the airport.

The lady sighed. ‘Love? Love doesn’t just happen. It has to be worked upon over a lifetime. Because before love, comes respect, and before respect, understanding…’ she rambled on. And this is where women go wrong.’

A story which lets one choose and decide between heady romance and steady marriage. One has to keep up the spark for marriage to work smoothly. Many a times, it felt as if , few pages from my life have been put in the book. A common woman’s story
